When I talk about weekly and monthly rhythm meetings within a Strategic Performance Management System like ConnectDots, the system I designed for Small & Medium size Companies, I am not talking about the classic “management meetings” that most Managers have learned to hate.
Most executives have been traumatized by scheduled or unscheduled meetings that:
- waste time without results
- have no clear purpose
- turn into blame games
- get filled with irrelevant topics
- recycle problems without decisions
- end with “we’ll see”
- participants come unprepared
- There is now connection (flow and continuity) from one to the next
- They (meetings) are not calendarized throughout the months and planned last minute. Therefore, participants can not make it
- and ultimately change nothing in practice
So when they hear “weekly meetings,” what they imagine is more bureaucracy and less real work.
In ConnectDots, however, we are talking about something completely different.
What Rhythm Meetings Are in ConnectDots
Rhythm meetings are not meetings. They are operational execution mechanisms.
They are the way:
- strategy “runs” every week
- progress is monitored
- course is corrected
- decisions are made
- obstacles are removed
- and strategy is converted into action
That’s why I say:
Strategy without a system is wishful thinking. KPIs without rhythm are dead numbers. Tools without alignment are noise.
ConnectDots works because it creates RHYTHM. And rhythm is the most critical ingredient of execution.
The 2 Core Types of Rhythm Meetings
1. Weekly Rhythm Meeting (Weekly Sprint Meeting)
Purpose: Execution. Not discussion.
Duration: 45–60 minutes
Participants: Managers + owners of critical actions
Fixed structure. Fixed agenda. No deviation.
What it is NOT:
- not brainstorming
- not a general update
- not a “let’s talk” meeting
- not a blame space
What it IS:
- Fast KPI check
- What is on track
- What is off track
- Where are we deviating from target
- OKRs & Actions review
- What was completed
- What was delayed
- What was blocked
- What is carried forward
- Decision making
- What do we change?
- What do we fix?
- What do we reprioritize?
- Clear action assignments
- who does what
- by when
- with what outcome
- Commitment recording
- No generalities
- No “we’ll see”
- Only measurable deliverables
Goal:
Every week the business moves 1% better than the previous week.
2. Monthly Accountability Meeting
Purpose: Strategic alignment & learning.
Duration: 2–3 hours
Participants: Executive team + key department heads
What it is NOT:
- not a repetition of the weekly
- not a PowerPoint presentation
- not a blame game
What it IS:
- Strategic goals review
- Where are we doing well
- Where are we deviating
- What is not working
- KPI & financial drivers analysis
- GPM
- OPEX
- EBITDA
- Cash flow
- DSO / DIO / DPO
- Utilization (in services)
- Learning from the data
- What did we learn this month
- Which assumptions were wrong
- What patterns are emerging
- Strategy & priorities recalibration
- What do we keep
- What do we change
- What do we stop
- Capability building
- Which capability is missing
- What do we need to build
- Where are the bottlenecks
- Accountability. Not blame. Only responsibility
Goal:
Every month the business becomes smarter, more aligned, and more capable.
Why Rhythm Meetings Do Not Become “Noise”
Because in ConnectDots:
- There is a clear strategy
- There are clear goals
- There are critical KPIs
- There are OKRs & actions
- There are owners
- There is a structured agenda
- There is responsibility and accountability
Without these, meetings indeed become a waste of time. With these, meetings become the engine of execution.
The Real Problem I See with CEOs
Many CEOs tell me:
“We don’t have time for all this.”
The truth is different:
- It’s not a time issue.
- It’s not a people issue.
- It’s not a tools issue.
It’s the fact that:
- the business operates in silos
- with fragmented systems
- without a common rhythm
- without a single source of truth
- without accountability
- without an execution mechanism
That’s why:
No Rhythm = No Execution.
ConnectDots does not add meetings. It replaces useless meetings with rhythm meetings that move the business forward.
Bottom line
Rhythm meetings in ConnectDots:
- are not bureaucracy
- are not “just another meeting”
- are not theory
They are the operating system for strategy execution. And that’s why they work. Because every dot is connected. And because they create RHYTHM.
No Rhythm = No Execution.
ConnectDots hard-wires Rhythm into how the business actually runs.
